Canon Powershot SD600 Digital Elph Camera

Posted by rutang5 on October 17, 2006

So I picked up my new digital camera, a Canon Powershot SD600 Digital Elph, from work today. I had secured a small amount of money from a teaching grant, and I decided to use it to upgrade my old Kodak EasyShare DX4900, which I’ve been using for a couple of years now.

The Canon is great so far — we’ve used it to snap a couple of outdoor pictures of the baby and they turned out really nice. The coolest part of the camera so far? It will automatically detect when you turn the camera over to look at the pictures and will orient them in the right direction for you — sweeeeet! I did a lot of research before picking this up, and Canon seems to have the best reputation at the moment, at least according to the CNet ratings. I came very close to picking up the new Nikon Coolpix with the built-in WiFi support, but several users had noted that there was some trouble in actually getting good pictures out of it. Not that I care, really; most of the pictures I’ll take will be of baby or the two dogs. I just figured it wasn’t much trouble taking out the memory card and popping it into the reader on the computer, so I might as well invest the extra money in another megapixel or two.
